Climate of El Hierro

The climate of the island is soft and uniform, a combination of trade winds and the Canarian currents of the Sahara bank. Temperatures along the coast vary between 19 and 23 degrees Centigrade. At the highest elevations especially in the north and in the east a few degrees must be subtracted and during almost the entire year a moderate or strong winds blow. The nights usually are very clear and cloudless much to the delights of romantics and astronomy aficionados. El Hierro is one of the places where one can see more stars without contamination from artificial light or the atmospher.

The island is famous for its 'bruma', trade wind fog that 'swallows' whole villages in the higher regions and makes them look ghost like.
